Sadly, Peter Reynolds, the previous long-standing Chairman of Horsley & Send Cricket Club passed away on Saturday 9th February 2019. He always had the Club's best interests at heart and his significant contribution to the Club is unprecedented.
Peter and his brother, Paul joined Horsley Cricket Club when they were 14 and 12 years old respectively. That was fifty-one years ago, coming from East Horsley Cricket Club, which had no Colts section. Peter played up until approximately 6 years ago.
Peter succeeded John Bingham, the current President, as Chairman 27 years ago and was Chairman for 26 years. He also held the positions of Fixture Secretary and Chairman of Cricket and umpired since he retired from playing. In addition, he was Chairman of the Arun Valley Cricket league prior to it being re-named the Surrey Downs League.
Peter was a major player with Roly Walton in negotiating the merger between Horsley Cricket Club & Send Cricket Club to create Horsley & Send Cricket Club. Some years back, Bing worked closely with Peter in preparing the drawings and obtaining the planning consents for the new track, pitch and pavilion. Peter submitted and arranged a successful Lottery grant application for £273 000. The application was supported by a letter drafted by Peter and signed by the then England captain, Alec Stewart when he was playing for Surrey at Guildford. Peter project-managed the construction of the new developments and negotiated the purchase of the land from Forte to allow for the expansion.
He will be missed. Sincere condolences to his family and friends. A memorial service will be held on Thursday 14th March, details of which can be obtained from Bing.
