Lets look at the positives - but be Patient in these 30 over games!
By Steve Isaac
Guildford hurt us so lets move on quickly to our 20 over cup game this Sunday
and a special mention to Dan Meyer on his 4 wickets last week !
Well we found our new opening bowling partnership in Ollie Hardman and Matthew Drew who bowled 8 tidy overs to
the county U15 opening batsman and England ladies reserve team bat who had just returned from a tour to India!
The boys conceded just over two runs an over by extracting bounce and putting these batsmen under pressure!
(well done imogi)
Once again our team spirit was excellent which last week made Neil G the Guildford manager comment that we had a wonderful
culture in our side of backing each other and helping each other out, lets keep that as our focus for the season which is the boys last full season
of fixtures before exams next year. Next year we will have just a T20 competition or two to maintain our unity and the U17 Dennis Jacob cup if we want to enter that too.....
As the boys are getting bigger they will fancy a few shots which is good but only in the right conditions and yesterday it was a
green seamer not conducive to good shotmaking with the variable bounce as well we should have been looking to 'graft' be patient.
The way to bat is to play every ball on its merit so defending the good ball and whacking the bad one!
At 15 overs we were competitive at 62-4 then we lost our heads with over aggressive shots and a needless run out, a couple of stumpings (unnessesary) but 7 wickets from Toby Finch in his six overs left us reeling and vulnerable we had lost 6 wickets for 23 runs and the game.
Robbie is not well with his glandular fever, MJ has a recovery period to finish from his ACL injury in September last year but is getting stronger every day. Ollie A has broken his ankle and is struggling to make the season. Have I missed anyone?
New Player returns to the club.
Adam Iqbal has come back to Horsley and Send to join us in our U15 campaign this season, he alway played up when he was at the club before
and is now returning in age. He is a powerful batsman, quite wristy and bowls leg spin. He has played for Effingham Mens 2's and will play adult cricket at the club for our 2's this season as well, please welcome him into our SJIL team when you see him.
We need to agree on our strategy and re-establish our values when we get the chance to - oh and get our discipline back!
Lets see as many of your boys at training on Thursday so I can have a chat with them as a group.
England are playing Pakistan in 5 matches as a warm up to the Cricket world cup which starts on the 30th May
Would anyone like to organise a world cup competition or sweepstake for the group?
Thank you Mike C for umpiring and Delia, Caroline and Sally for scoring
