Sloth like run rate kills match
By James Lewis
1st loss of the season
Someone somewhere once said catches win matches, they forgot to add that a decent run rate also helps...
In todays match at Twinns field, H&SCC took on Guildford. Their opening bat , a large boy man set about the openers with aggressive intent flashing hard and whacking an enormous 6 rattling up a quick fire 19 off 12 balls before dom bowled him.
Following 2 quick wickets including a super run out by Dom, their number 5 steadied the ship scoring (and retiring) on 33 off 34 balls.
Some early season fielding helped propel Guildford to 134 off their 20 overs, a good score but not impossible , just 7 an over to get on a short boundary pitch.
Ben started well lofting said man boy opener for a 6 , however once he was out the run rate slowed to a trickle. Far too many balls were either played and missed or patted down the wicket for an easy dot for the bowler.
We should be looking for a strike rate of 100 in 20/20 especially on a short boundary pitch. However in the end the strike rate was a mere 50 and unsurprisingly we succumbed to a fairly hefty 44 run loss.
I know the boys can do much better than this and it may be early season rustiness but more nets, more porridge in the mornings and less fortnite may be the key to improving......
