Guildford prove a little strong..
By Steve Isaac
Symonds and Sciaretta lay the perfect platform for a winning chase and despite 23 from Jack we fell short in an exciting finish
After the frustrations of the previous week and this weeks game both being cancelled I was delighted that
we could arrange a friendly with Guildford at such short notice. Louise thank you for providing the drinks and biscuits
and Peter for Scoring. As a side note the Guildford manager Neil and I go a long way back and he had asked Frankie to umpire
the game on the basis that if he doesn't do it in a friendly how can he learn. He got through ok and probably made a mistake or two but like
child referees in football they have to learn by doing.
I thought this was the best this side had bowled and with Chris away preparing for some play off game at Wembley (which they won - well done Fulham) I was so pleased more volunteers stood up to help. I love this group.
Matthew and Oli where a formidable pair and bowled the first 6 overs for a miserly 24 runs,Oli taking an early wicket bowling their impressive opener and the other opener retired frightened by the speed the opening pair got up. Every bowler played his part with the wickets going to George 2-4, then being shared around with Sam(1-13), jack (1-3), Ollie (1-16)and Daniel (1-10) all claiming scalps. Tom and Jem where unlucky and extras counted for 29 which was acceptable, just.
Sam and Tom made 40 runs and looked a million dollars not being troubled by the bowlers then 3 quick wickets the openers both being caught and Petei bowled and a run out for Tom F kept us to 49-4 after the 11th over and just slipping behind the rate required. Jem and Jack consolidated the innings then Gapping and good running between the wickets kept us in touch. Tom C also hit well and unfortunately the 30 needed from 20 at the end proved too much as their opening bowler came back and was too hard to get away
Great team spirit I thought, the boys behaved well and encouraged as a unit at the end as the excitement grew. Its lovely to see so many more of you getting involved with the game and I hope we can have more of the same this Sunday at Valley End when we go over there in the afternoon.
Man of the match Sam for his batting
