Hybrid cricket pitches - what and why

As we head into the outdoor cricket season, the demand for our grass pitches is growing. In order to enable these games to be played on good quality surfaces, we have been looking at multiple ways to increase capacity (including getting more use out of existing strips). Last season we had 76 adult and junior matches played on grass wickets across our two squares. For 2023, we are anticipating that this will rise to 116 matches (mostly through increased use by juniors). During the winter we invested in a new Dennis Verticutter platform which will provide better quality and better wearing pitches. We have also decided to invest in and install 4 SIS hybrid pitches (2 on either side). The ECB said this about hybrids;

“This product has the potential to be a real game changer for the future of cricket, particularly in the lucrative, limited over, white ball form of the game through increased usage and possible freeing up of central TV pitches, most importantly, without sacrificing quality over quantity"

By installing hybrid pitches we should be able to add capacity allowing for 20-30 additional junior games to be played on grass. SISGrass cricket pitches are made up of 95 percent natural grass and 5 per cent two-tone polyethylene yarn. If you want more information about hybrid pitches, please use the link below. Please have a look for yourself when you are next down at the club.
