Dan the Man and Yusuf save the day

The Horsely and send hurricanes started their campaign off with a nail biting win against Banstead on Monday.

The evening started on a positive note as skipper Jarred Hunt managed to win the toss and insert Banstead to bat, with Dan Collett and Sam Judd sharing the new ball they managed to keep it tight in the first few overs of the game but with a couple of loose near then end of the power play overs. With Sam Judd took a wicket in the last over of the power play a smart catch being taken by Rohan Sharma at backward point. Banstead ended the first 6 overs on 47/1. Yusuf then came on and immediately started to land the ball in the correct areas having his first over only going for 4 and taking the second wicket of the game with a smart return catch. With Yusuf settling into his spell it required the enforcer Sean Hunt to bowl at his full pace putting the batsman on the back foot and on the odd occasion it seemed they were running off to square leg. After Sean had bowled two overs with no success the ball was thrown to the leg spin of Rohan Sharma who had a great spell of bowling producing turn and bounce and confusing the batsman he ended a very good spell of 4 overs 1 for 22 going at less than a run a ball in T20 cricket is an incredible effort. The last change was for the debutant Josh Coppen in unfamiliar circumstances running up the hill, produced a much needed spell of 3 overs 0 for 24 filling in as a sixth bowler in the absence of Timmy Ozanne. To finish off the Banstead innings Sean and Dan came back to restrict them to 145/4 off their 20 overs with a wicket being taken in the last over bowled S Hunt caught J Hunt. The four wickets being taken by Sam 1/19 Yusuf 1/21 Rohan 1/22 and Sean 1/21.

With a quick change around Michael Stewart and Callum Black came out to open up the batting Michael boldly taking strike and taking the first over of the innings for 10 runs. With Michael farming the strike Callum felt like he needed to get his innings underway with a wild swipe across the line and having his off peg removed for a duck from two deliveries. Matt Denley came in at 3 and calmed down the chase making a cool 22 runs keeping the strike rotating and allowing the free flowing stroke play of Michel to take the forefront Matt then holed out at long on the bring jarred to the crease. then came the time to turn the screw and Michel then sent their captain onto the train tracks in the process losing the ball. along with a few more lusty blows Michael soon reached his 50 retiring not out being replaced with Sam Judd who joined Jarred at the crease. These two came together immediately showed a good understanding with each other running well between the wickets. With these two at the crease needing 42 from 6 overs and both striking the ball well the chase seemed a formality and then the true madness of T20 came through losing 4 wickets with the score on 120. It then came down to the last 2 overs the hurricanes needed 22 dan and Yusuf at the crease. in the 19th over Yusuf hit two beautifully struck fours and ran well with dan. It then came down to the last over 9 needed and then with 3 balls two boundaries and a scampered single the canes were home and off to a great start in the race to make the home finals day. onto the next one away to oxted and limpsfield on Monday the 10th of July.
