In easily our best season of cricket so far at HSCC this U14 group is challenging for the title in a league
we only just qualified for, however it is now out of our own hands! With Holidays upon us once again we need all players available playing this coming weekend
and as many practicing on Wednesday as possible please.
This coming weekend we have Spencer on Saturday and Cheam on Sunday for our final two games. We need your help just to get two teams out please?
Pyrford win the toss and bat well scoring an impressive 173 from their 25 overs, Oli Hardman bowled with pace and put in 5 good overs for 21 runs to be the pick of the bowlers. The pitch was the best cricket pitch we have played on this year and I counted over 10 dropped catches from both teams in a day when only 7 wicket fell! There is a saying in cricket that you cannot catch them all but we can certainly do better than that!
All the bowlers struggled at times as it was a better day for batsmen.
Reid and Yaldon set about the chase diligently against good fast bowling and we were matching the rate set by Perform with 50 runs from the first 10 overs. It was sweltering hot and thanks to Andy Reid for supplying lucozade to the batsmen who drank 3 bottles of the stuff! Tom came out after drinks and hit hard scoring 16 from Dougie's over and setting the tone for what was to follow. in the next 9 overs the pair scored 88 runs and put us well ahead of the rate which started at 7 an over. Reid was dashing and elegant, pulling, Driving, cutting and especially good late cut shots when he took 14 from Ben Hudson's only over from that end, Oli at the other end was accumulating and rotating the strike nicely while still sweeping and driving the ball back to the boundary. Pyford where very frustrated, turning on themselves but still fighting. Tom's luck eventually ran out , James had a swing but the keeper took a good catch, Zain was elegant and our toughest moment came when Zain was bowled from the first ball of the final over and we were left with two new batsmen at the crease with 5 runs still wanted. Danny and Robbie did well to get bat on ball and get us to the tied score against Ben Way who bowled his 5 overs for 9 runs. Honours shared then as we ran a bye from the last ball with 2 needed for the win.......
Thank you Delia,Kate and anyone who helped and to all of you who supported as i could hear the tension coming from around the pavilion!
And so to Spencer who had a tough weekend against Guildford conceding 280 odd and not contesting, can Pyrford win against Guildford? We certainly want them to and I think they will have a good chance if they can put that team out next weekend. Have a good week.
