This U14 match vs Weybridge was potentially a tricky fixture. Both sides were missing leading players on Surrey Performance duty, but captain Ben Cooper had faith in our bowling attack and chose to put Weybridge into bat, which proved to be a decisive move.
Seb, Ben and Max bowled extremely well to prevent Weybridge scoring runs early on supported by a first class fielding effort. Will set the tone with a superb catch towards the boundary over head height. There was great chat and encouragement in the field and that confidence made a massive difference. The batsmen struggled to build an innings with a run rate of just 3 an over and very few extras. Then Alex arrived to bowl two overs and the change of pace and a bit of swing saw 3 wickets fall with two excellent hanging catches from Finlay S. By the end, Weybridge only managed 80 runs in 20 overs for 8 wickets, with Seb getting just reward with 3 wickets and Ben and Max one a piece. I really can't remember a better performance in the field.
Ben chose to back himself and Tommy again with the bat, and they nearly made it through to end for the second match in a row, but Tommy fell to a straight delivery from an otherwise wayward bowler and Toby came in to finish off the match inside 13 overs. A very dominant performance.
(Ben has kindly offered to give others a chance of batting as he's absent from the next two Tier1 games !!)
